Dordogne is Shaping Up to Be the Best Looking Game of 2021

The boundaries of good video game graphics will always be pushed further and further, but when it comes to a game’s aesthetics, it seems that the sky’s the limit and we’ll always be astounded by a game’s unique art style. Dordogne is one of those games and it is seriously gorgeous.

Named after an area in southwestern France, this idyllic countryside is known for its picturesque landscapes and gourmet delights, specifically foie gras, truffles, and walnuts. The name Dordogne means “long river”, which refers to the main river that runs across the main areas of the prefecture.

The game is made by Un Je Ne Sais Quo, a studio founded by Cédric Babouche, a Cannes award-winning director behind the French animated film Houdini and short film Imago. Babouche has noted that the idea behind Dordogne was to make a game he could play with his daughters, and by the looks of it, this game seems perfect for that.

The game has you in control of Mimi, a young woman revisiting the house of her recently deceased grandmother in the countryside. Her grandmother left a series of letters and puzzles for Mimi to solve, which requires her revisiting old memories of her as a wide-eyed child.

The game is a narrative adventure, telling a wholesome tale unfolding like a children’s storybook. As Mimi, you’ll be collecting items, taking pictures, and explore the beautiful watercoloured landscapes to solve the many puzzles that lie waiting.

Dordogne will be released sometime in 2021 on Steam and Nintendo Switch.
